Praying Through Addiction
The Map — Learn This
"Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."
Matthew 6:9–13 — NKJV
Worship
"Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name."
Father, You are holy. You are above every stronghold, every craving, every chain. I come to You not in my weakness but in Your greatness. You are Lord over all — including this.
Surrender
"Your kingdom come, Your will be done."
I surrender this addiction to You. My way hasn't worked. I want Your will more than I want the next fix. Come reign in the places I've given over to the enemy.
Provision
"Give us this day our daily bread."
Lord, give me what I need today — strength for today, not tomorrow. One day at a time. Fill the emptiness that drives me back to this.
Confession
"Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors."
I confess the damage this has done — to me, to the people I love. Forgive me. And help me forgive myself. Help me forgive anyone whose pain pushed me toward this.
Protection
"Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil."
Keep me from the triggers, the people, the places that pull me back. Deliver me from what I cannot break on my own. You are my way out.
Praise
"For Yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever."
The same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in me. That power breaks addiction. To You be the glory when I walk free.
Stand Fast
You are not fighting alone. The battle belongs to the Lord. One day. One prayer. One step at a time — forward.
Entry 003Psalm 141:3 · James 3:5
Guard Your Tongue
Key Verse
"Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips."
Psalm 141:3 — NKJV
Worship
Father, Your words created the world. Every good and perfect word flows from You. I want my mouth to reflect who You are, not who I used to be.
Surrender
Not my words, Lord — Yours. Let Your kingdom come through what I say today. Silence my flesh when it wants to wound, gossip, or tear down.
Provision
Give me the right words today. Words that build up, not destroy. Words that bring life into rooms where there is death. Supply what I cannot manufacture on my own.
Confession
Forgive me for the words I've used as weapons — against others, against myself. Words spoken in anger. Words I can't take back. Cleanse my mouth and the heart behind it.
Protection
Set a guard over my mouth today. Keep me from the conversation that leads nowhere good. Deliver me from the habit of tearing down what You are trying to build.
Praise
You spoke and there was light. Your Word does not return void. Let my words carry something of that same power — for Your glory alone.
Stand Fast
The tongue is small but sets the course of a life. Today, let every word leaving your mouth be a weapon for good — building up, not tearing down.
Entry 004James 1:19–20 · Proverbs 15:1
The Battle of Anger
Key Verse
"Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God."
James 1:19–20 — NKJV
Worship
Father, You are slow to anger and great in power. You are patient when I am not. I come to You acknowledging that You are in control of everything I am tempted to rage against.
Surrender
Your kingdom come — not my reaction. I lay down my right to be right. I lay down the need to win the argument, settle the score, or make someone pay. Have Your way in me before I open my mouth.
Provision
Give me what I need today to respond and not react. Give me the pause. Give me the breath. Give me Your peace in the moment when my flesh wants to detonate. I cannot do this without You.
Confession
Forgive me for the damage I've done in anger — the words, the walls, the wounds. Forgive me for calling it passion when it was pride. Clean me out, Lord.
Protection
Lead me away from the triggers that push me to that place. When provocation comes, deliver me from the man I used to be. Put a space between the spark and my response — and fill that space with You.
Praise
You are the God who stills storms with a word. That same authority lives in me through Your Spirit. I will be slow to anger and quick to hear — not by my strength. By Yours.
Stand Fast
Anger is not always sin — but unchecked it becomes a weapon against yourself. Give it to God before it costs you what you can't get back.
Entry 005Proverbs 16:18 · James 4:6
The Battle of Pride
Key Verse
"God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."
James 4:6 — NKJV
Worship
Father, You are God and I am not. Before You spoke the universe into existence I was nothing. Everything I have, everything I am, came from Your hand. You alone are worthy of glory.
Surrender
Your kingdom come — not my reputation. Not my agenda. Not my need to be seen or proven right. I step down so You can step up. Have the throne in my life today.
Provision
Give me a humble heart today. Not a weak one — a surrendered one. Give me eyes to see others as more important than myself. Supply the grace I need to serve without keeping score.
Confession
Forgive me for the times I've taken credit that belonged to You. For the arrogance that pushed people away and closed doors You were trying to open. Pride is a thief — and I've let it steal too much.
Protection
Lead me away from the posture of pride before it takes root. Deliver me from the need to prove myself. Remind me that the greatest in Your kingdom is the servant of all.
Praise
You resist the proud but give grace to the humble. I choose grace. I choose low ground. To You be all the glory — for every good thing in my life came from Your hand, not mine.
Stand Fast
Pride goes before the fall. Low ground is the safest ground. The soldier who kneels before God stands taller than any man who doesn't.

Praying for Others
Key Verse
"The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much."
James 5:16 — NKJV
Worship
Father, You are the God who sees every person I will ever love. You knew them before they were born. I come to You on their behalf — not because my words are powerful, but because You are.
Surrender
Your will be done in their life — not mine. I release them from my expectations. I stop trying to fix what only You can heal. Have Your way in them, even when it doesn't look the way I think it should.
Provision
Meet their need today — the one I know about and the one I don't. Where they are lacking, supply. Where they are broken, restore. Where they are lost, find them. You are their provider, not me.
Confession
Forgive me for the times I've talked about people instead of praying for them. For the times I've judged instead of interceded. Forgive me for waiting too long to bring them before You.
Protection
Cover them today. Put a hedge around them — their mind, their body, their home, their family. Deliver them from what I cannot see and what they cannot fight alone. You are their shield.
Praise
You are the God who hears. Not one prayer prayed in faith falls to the ground. I trust You with the people I love. To Your glory — let them see Your hand move in their lives.
Stand Fast
Someone needs you to stand in the gap for them today. They may never know you prayed. God does — and that is enough.

Walking with the Holy Spirit
Key Verse
"If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit."
Galatians 5:25 — NKJV
Worship
Father, You did not leave me alone. You sent Your Spirit to live inside me — the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead. He is not a feeling. He is a Person. And He is here right now.
Surrender
Not my instincts, not my habits, not my flesh — Your Spirit. I yield to His leading even when it doesn't make sense to my natural mind. Have Your way in me today.
Provision
Give me ears to hear Him today. In the quiet. In the Word. In the still small voice that cuts through the noise. Give me the sensitivity to know when He is speaking and the courage to obey when He does.
Confession
Forgive me for the times I've grieved Your Spirit — by ignoring Him, overriding Him, or silencing what He was trying to say. Forgive me for choosing my way when He was pointing to Yours.
Protection
Lead me by Your Spirit and not by my flesh today. Deliver me from every counterfeit voice — fear, pride, the enemy — that mimics Your leading. Keep me walking in step with You, one moment at a time.
Praise
Your Spirit is my Comforter, my Counselor, my Guide. He intercedes for me when I don't have words. He knows the mind of God and He lives in me. That is not small — that is everything.
Stand Fast
You were never meant to navigate this world alone. The Holy Spirit is not a backup plan — He is the plan. Stay in step. Stay yielded. Stay listening.

The Battle of Adultery
Key Verse
"I have made a covenant with my eyes; why then should I look upon a young woman?"
Job 31:1 — NKJV
Worship
Father, You are holy and You designed marriage as a covenant — a reflection of Your faithfulness to Your people. You do not break Your promises. I come to You today honoring what You created and acknowledging that You are Lord over my eyes, my mind, and my heart.
Surrender
Your kingdom come in my marriage, in my thought life, in every space where temptation tries to take root. Not my desires, Lord — Your design. I lay down what my flesh wants and I pick up what You have called me to. Faithful. Covenant. Yours.
Provision
Give me a pure mind today. When the eye wanders, redirect it. When the thought comes, replace it with Your Word. Supply the love I need for my spouse that only You can produce — deeper than feeling, stronger than temptation.
Confession
Forgive me for every look, every thought, every step I've taken toward what was never mine. Forgive me for the places I've entertained what I should have fled. Cleanse me, Lord — spirit, soul, and body.
Protection
Lead me away from the door before I ever get close to it. Deliver me from the screens, the conversations, the situations that open that gate. Guard my covenant. What You have joined together, let no man — and no temptation — put asunder.
Praise
You are a God of restoration. What the enemy has used to destroy, You can rebuild. To Your glory — I will walk in purity, protect my covenant, and honor the one You gave me.
Stand Fast
The covenant you made before God is worth protecting with everything you have. Flee early. Pray hard. Guard what matters most.
Entry 0091 Timothy 4:4–5
Blessing Before a Meal
Key Verse
"For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer."
1 Timothy 4:4–5 — NKJV
Worship
Father, every good and perfect gift comes from You. This food, this table, this moment — all from Your hand. You are the Provider of all things and I do not take that lightly.
Surrender
This meal is received on Your terms, not mine. Let it nourish the body You gave me so I can do the work You called me to. Not for indulgence — for strength to serve.
Provision
Thank You for daily bread — literally. There are those who have none today. Let me never forget that this plate is grace, not guarantee.
Confession
Forgive me for the times I've eaten without gratitude. For rushing past Your blessing without acknowledging the hand that provided it.
Protection
Let this food be received with thanksgiving and sanctified by Your Word. Guard the health of this body — Your temple.
Praise
You feed the sparrow and You feed me. Your faithfulness is on this table. To You be the glory — Amen.
Stand Fast
Gratitude is a weapon against entitlement. Every meal is a reminder — God provides. Never stop saying thank You.
Entry 010Psalm 133:1
Prayer for a Family Gathering
Key Verse
"Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity."
Psalm 133:1 — NKJV
Worship
Father, You are the God of families. You set the lonely in families. Every person in this room was known by You before they drew their first breath. We gather in Your name and we honor You first.
Surrender
Have Your way in this gathering. Let old wounds stay surrendered. Let old arguments stay buried. Let Your peace be louder than any history in this room.
Provision
Provide what each person here needs today — the one carrying grief, the one carrying joy, the one who came in quietly. Meet them all, Lord. You know exactly what they walked in with.
Confession
Forgive us for the fractures in this family that we've let linger. For the words unsaid and the apologies owed. Heal what only You can heal.
Protection
Cover every person under this roof today. Protect the children. Guard the conversations. Deliver us from the enemy's attempt to use family as a battlefield.
Praise
You are the God who restores. Prodigals come home. Tables get set again. That is Your nature — and we praise You for it. Amen.
Stand Fast
Family is worth fighting for — on your knees. Be the one who prays over the room before anyone else arrives.
